What the sprayed edges mockup does
Sprayed edges sell special editions. A run of books with painted page edges in a colour from the cover is one of the most shared things on bookish social media, and readers pay more for it. Before the print run, a mockup is how you show it.
In DudeCovers, make your book, then pick Page edges under Book. Sprayed paints the top, the side and the bottom of the pages in any colour: a ready colour or one you pick to match your cover. Gilt lays gold leaf on them, catching the light as the book turns. Deckle leaves the side rough, each sheet a slightly different length, the way literary hardbacks are often finished.
The pages under the colour are a real stack: each sheet catches the light, the edge eases in where it meets the covers, and a read copy fans out a little. Turn the book so the edges face the light, look down on it to show the top, put it on a plinth or make a video of it turning.

Straight answers.
- What are sprayed edges?
- Page edges painted in a colour after the book is bound: the top, the side and the bottom. Special editions use them, often in a colour from the cover.
- What is a deckle edge?
- A rough, untrimmed page edge where each sheet ends at a slightly different length. It comes from handmade paper, and literary hardbacks still use it to look classic.
- Can I match my cover's colour?
- Yes. Pick Sprayed, then one of the ready colours or your own with the colour picker.
- Does it work for paperbacks?
- Yes, for every trim and binding, and in the scenes too.
- Is it free?
- Sprayed, gilt and deckle edges are part of Pro ($129 a year, $15 a month, or $399 once for Lifetime). Make a free account and they're yours for a 7-day Pro week, no card.
